Communications Manager
The Firehouse Theatre seeks a creative, strategic, collaborative, dedicated, and enthusiastic full-time Communications Manager, starting on/around March 1st, 2025. Ideal candidates should have training and/or related professional experience in marketing and/or social media promotion, and be excited to work in the highly collaborative and unpredictable environment of professional theatre. Experience in non-profit fund development is a plus. Firehouse prioritizes in-office collaboration, but some duties can be performed remotely. We anticipate a 32-40 hour work week and can offer an annual salary between $30,000-$35,000 commensurate with experience. The Communications Manager reports to the Producing Artistic Director and works collaboratively with the full Firehouse staff.
Expectations include but are not limited to:
Developing, implementing, and continuously refining a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the organization's strategic goals and overall mission
Developing and executing the promotional plan for all performances and presentations produced by Firehouse Theatre, including Firehouse Mainstage, Firehouse New Plays, Resident Company Productions, Firehouse Fringe, and Firehouse Off-Site
Managing the online ticketing system and interfacing with ticket-buyers
Creating and executing email communication plans aimed at informing, engaging, retaining, and expanding audience and donor bases through compelling storytelling, personalized messaging, and strong calls to action
Creating a robust social media presence for the organization
Developing a relationship with and consistently engaging with both local and industry press (Style Weekly, RTD, Broadway World, Playbill, American Theatre, etc.)
Attending weekly Firehouse staff meetings
Regularly attending and being a front-of-house presence at Firehouse productions and events
Developing or leading the development of production artwork
Ensuring the website is updated, and consistently reflects the current state of the organization and current and upcoming programming
Ensuring all Firehouse productions are reflected in community arts and event calendars
Working with contractors to develop all institutional, seasonal, and production promotional videos
Providing administrative support to the Producing Artistic Director in fund development activities such as the annual fund, copyediting grant applications, and managing the grant calendar
Collaborate with our partners in the creation and execution of Access and Inclusion strategies
The Firehouse Theatre, founded in 1993, has long been a Richmond community leader in new plays and adventurous productions. In 2023, Firehouse merged with The New Theatre, which brought with it an increased commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and new play development. Firehouse Theatre produces a four-show mainstage season, develops exciting new content, provides meaningful producing infrastructure for multiple resident theatre and dance companies, co-produces at alternative production sites, and plays host to RVA’s independent performing artists through our Firehouse Fringe program.

FIREHOUSE LADDER APPRENTICESHIP
Firehouse Theatre is assembling a team of highly motivated and collaborative individuals who are interested in joining our Firehouse Ladder Program. Apprentices have opportunities to learn and work across production, performance, and management based on each participant's interests and Firehouse's production needs.
Expectations and schedule will be agreed on before beginning the program. Work hours are flexible and based on the needs of production, but expected to fall within 10-20 hours per week, for a period of at least one month. The Ladder Program is an unpaid educational opportunity. Apprentices must arrange and cover their own housing and travel expenses, as well as any college credit that may be available.

VCU FEDERAL WORK STUDY PARTNERSHIP
Current and Incoming VCU students may apply to join the VCU Work study program, which partners students with Firehouse Staff to receive a financial aid based award, in exchange for job experience in a working professional theatre.
All levels of experience are encouraged to apply. Eligibility is based on Federal Financial Aid awards, and VCU award selection processes. All Applicants must apply through Handshake Job Boards. PRODUCTION RESEARCH INTERNSHIP
In the 2023-24 season, Firehouse Theatre is piloting a partnership with VCU’s Department of Sociology to establish a Production Research Internship. Interns will research the social political landscape of the play, providing directors, designers, and actors the necessary context to bring the play to its most authentic realization.
